Appointed Boston School Committee takes office.

Members include Felix Arroyo, Anna Mae Cole, Robert Culver, George Joe, Paul Parks, William Spring, and Luis Velez. Parks is the first chairperson, and Joe is the first Asian-American to serve on the Boston School Committee. It is the only appointed municipal school board in Massachusetts and the first in a major city in the U.S.
